The short version. Caterpillar gives you estimates, not medical advice. Look after your account, don't abuse the shared service, and understand that food data you contribute may help other users. You can leave and take your data with you at any time.
Caterpillar Calorie Tracker ("Caterpillar", "the app", "we") is an iOS application for tracking food, hydration and related wellbeing habits, operated from Australia. By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms.
Caterpillar provides estimates of calories, macronutrients, portion sizes and hydration, generated from food databases, barcode data, user input and AI analysis of photos. Estimates can be wrong. The app is a general-wellbeing tool, not a medical device, and nothing in it constitutes medical, dietetic or other professional health advice. Consult a qualified professional before making significant dietary changes, particularly if you are pregnant, have a medical condition, or have a history of disordered eating. Caterpillar is not intended for users under 16.
Core tracking is free. A paid "Pro" tier is offered through Apple's App Store in-app purchase system on yearly, monthly and weekly terms. Pricing, billing, renewal and cancellation are handled by Apple under their terms, and subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple account settings. Features included in Pro are described at the point of purchase and may change over time. If Pro lapses, Pro-only data services may stop and associated cloud content may be scheduled for deletion after notice.
AI scanning and AI search run on a shared, metered service that costs us money per request. Usage is therefore subject to per-device limits on the number of requests per hour and per day. These limits apply to all users including Pro subscribers, are set well above ordinary personal use, and may be adjusted. Attempting to circumvent them (for example by automating requests or resetting counters) is a breach of these terms.
Don't attempt to disrupt the service, probe or bypass its security, scrape or bulk-extract its databases, reverse engineer the app except as the law permits, or submit unlawful or deliberately false content through community features such as food submissions.
When you submit or correct food data, including nutrition-label scans that are verified and added to Caterpillar's shared verified-food database, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use, edit and distribute that contribution within the service. It may, after review, be shown to other users. Photographs you attach as evidence are stored with the submission and reviewed by a human, so submissions must not contain personal information, and you should not include anything in frame you would not want a moderator to see. Approved contributions remain in the shared database if you later delete your account, because other users rely on them; they contain product facts, not personal information.
Caterpillar can import history you export from another tracker. You are responsible for having the right to use that data. Imported entries are treated as your own logs: they fill gaps in your history and never overwrite days you've already recorded, and they don't earn achievements or streaks, which are reserved for logging done in Caterpillar.
The app, its artwork (including the caterpillar, the Butterfly Gallery collection and the garden scenery), name and branding are our property or licensed to us. Third-party food data is used under its respective licences, including Open Food Facts (ODbL), FSANZ food composition data and public-domain government sources.
The app is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law (including the Australian Consumer Law, whose guarantees are not excluded), we disclaim warranties of accuracy, availability and fitness for a particular purpose, and our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for decisions you make based on the app's estimates.
We may update the app, these terms, or discontinue features, with reasonable notice for material changes; continued use after notice is acceptance. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Disputes are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of Australian courts.
