If it isn't here, email us. A human reads every message.
Logging anything into a wrapped-up day reopens it, whichever way you log it. Wrap it up again when you're done. Reopening never costs you your streak; the day is judged on what it ends up being.
It's an estimate, but a careful one. The AI identifies each component, and on LiDAR-equipped iPhones real depth measurement sizes your portions rather than guessing. A calorie figure that couldn't come from the food's own protein, carbs and fat is rebuilt from them, and a kitchen scale in frame is treated as the source of truth. You can edit any item before logging.
Yes. Pasta, rice, oats and lentils roughly triple in weight when cooked, so food on a plate is treated as cooked, and you're told if a figure was corrected.
No. LiDAR (Pro models) makes portion sizing sharper, but every feature works on any supported iPhone. The AI falls back to careful visual estimation, blended with your own description if you give one.
Almost always camera permission, which is set per app, so it can be off for Caterpillar while working everywhere else. Open Settings, scroll to Caterpillar, and turn Camera on. If it is already on, close Caterpillar fully and reopen it.
Yes. Tap Nutrition details on any food, when logging or editing, to see every nutrient its label declares, scaled to the amount on screen.
The product's numbers were read off its real nutrition panel and matched to its barcode, then shared so the next person who scans it gets the same figures. It's a crowd database that grows every time someone photographs a label.
Open it, tap Not right? Suggest an edit, and photograph the nutrition panel and the barcode. If both read cleanly it's verified and shared straight away. If something can't be confirmed, the app says exactly what, and a person checks it.
They appear on verified products. Thumbs up says the numbers match the pack in your hand. Thumbs down reports them. Neither changes a number, but enough reports reopen the product so the next label photo replaces its values, and confirmations make a product harder to reopen.
Search draws on public databases as well as Caterpillar's own. Results that can't describe a real food are removed, results whose calories don't match their own macros are pushed below ones that do, and verified products are favoured.
Coffee counts, and so does tea. Measured over a day, they hydrate you about as well as water, which is not what folklore says. Alcohol depends entirely on strength: a beer is still net hydrating, wine is roughly break-even, and a neat spirit actually takes water back out of your dew drop. You can watch the drop fall when you log one.
Core tracking is free: logging, barcode and nutrition label scanning, hydration, streaks, Safety Cocoons and the gallery. Free includes one AI Meal Scan, one menu scan and one AI search a day, and up to eight favourites. Pro removes those limits and adds insights, the Adaptive Target, history import and more. Pro is yearly, monthly or weekly; pricing is shown in the app before you buy anything, and billing is handled by Apple. There are no ads at any tier.
Only fair-use ceilings per hour and per day, so no one person can run the shared service flat out. They're set well above ordinary use. You'd have to be scanning continuously to notice.
A photo you scan is sent securely to our AI provider once, to generate the analysis, and the app then keeps a small compressed copy on your device for your timeline. If you submit a food correction, the photos you took as evidence travel with it so a person can check the numbers against the packaging.
If you've signed in, your history, achievements, favourites and settings are backed up to your account. Reinstall, sign in, and everything returns. Without an account, data lives only on your device and goes with the app. Either way you can export the lot to CSV first.
Synced data is stored with our backend provider (Supabase) and is readable only by your account, enforced at the database level. We don't run ads and we never sell personal data. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Sign in with Apple or with Google, whichever you prefer. An account exists so your history survives losing or changing a phone.
Yes, two-way. Caterpillar can read steps, active energy, exercise minutes and weight with your permission, and write your logged water and weigh-ins back to Health. You choose exactly which categories sync.
Yes, with Pro. Export from your old tracker and import the file. It's read entirely on your device and never uploaded. Imported entries fill gaps in your history and never overwrite days you've already recorded.
Please talk to a professional first. Caterpillar is a general wellbeing tool, not a medical device, and calorie tracking isn't right for everyone. There's no shaming language and no punishment for going over, but that doesn't make it the right tool for every person.
